Position Description: The Medical Staff Coordinator manages the activities and resources of the Medical Staff Office in regard to planning, organizing, monitoring and coordinating the work efforts of the department. The Coordinator oversees all aspects of the Medical Staff Office, including medical staff committee support, credentialing functions, peer review, continuing medical education functions, and acts as a liaison between medical staff and administration. This position ensures thorough and timely verification of physician’s credentials according to policies and procedures.
This position provides advisory support to the hospital’s medical staff and acts as a liaison between Administration and the Medical Staff, communicating with the leadership of both designated organizations on key issues. This position requires a strong working knowledge of all regulatory bodies impacting the function of the Medical Staff office as well as a strong working knowledge of the rules, regulations and bylaws of the Medical Staff. The coordinator completes computer and word processing communication projects, records and edits meeting minutes, verifies and processes physician appointment applications and reappointment applications, all in accordance with applicable Medical Staff Bylaws. Responsibility for implementing necessary procedures/programs to meet legal and regulatory requirements for the Medical Staff is also required by this position.
Full Time 8 Hour Day Shift (Exempt)
Education, Certification, and Licensure Qualifications:
- Associate Degree or equivalent education/experience is required
- Medical Staff Credentialing preferred
Experience Qualifications:
- Minimum 1 year of experience in medical staff services, including credentialing and privileging is required.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and human relations skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage various projects simultaneously and accurately in order to meet multiple deadlines.
- Demonstrated attention to detail.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment involving frequent changes in processes and procedures.
- Strong organization & communication skills and attention to details required.
- Ability to function independently w/minimal direct supervision
Skills and Knowledge Qualifications:
- Must be familiar with National Practitioner Data Bank requirements, reporting processes and timelines.
- Must have knowledge of Federal & State regulatory requirements & accreditation standards e.g., The Joint Commission, TITLE 22, NCQA, NPDB, & certifying agencies.
- Must possess knowledge of hospital and medical staff organizations and structures, medical terminology, medical-legal issues and laws, and pertinent regulatory requirements and standards.
- Must possess knowledge of, and have the ability to interpret, medical staff rules and regulations and must be skilled at deadlines and accomplishing assigned duties without supervision.
- Tact, diplomacy, and the ability to work with individuals in all levels of hospital and medical staff organizations.
- Independent problem solving and decision-making abilities.
- Deals with frequent interruptions.
- Computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, and credentialing software.
