Credentialing and privileging of Allied Health Professionals (AHPs) continues to be an exploding area of the healthcare industry with more hospitals, ambulatory surgical centers and medical group practices recruiting qualified professionals to provide patient care.  This is also an area of focus during accreditation and licensure surveys.  This session will focus on the issues and challenges of credentialing AHPs based on The Joint Commission (TJC), Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) standards including supervision requirements.

The session is designed to explain the differences (or similarities) between the NPDB and HIPDB, understanding reporting and query requirements & options and determine if PDS (Proactive Disclosure Service) is the best option for your organization given your accreditation requirements being it TJC or NCQA.  The session will also include a demonstration on how to navigate the npdb-hipdb.hrsa.gov website.

Although this session is based on Joint Commission Standards for OPPE, our managed care/medical group MSPs can use the information provided to assist with group related quality performance of providers.

This presentation will provide the attendees with two perspectives on how to address and manage disruptive practitioners.  Both viewpoints are necessary and most often integrated in the approach to improving behavior.  As a practicing medical staff attorney, Mr. Brown will present from the legal perspective and Dr. Cracroft, a practicing physician, will demonstrate from the providers position.

Meeting Category I Continuing Medical Education (CME) Accreditation Requirements (TH04)

Accreditation standards for a quality Category I CME program continue to increase to meet the ACCME standards and pressure from the government to assure there are no conflicts of interest from those who have a decision in planning physician education programs.  The attendees will be provided with an overview of the California IMQ program, compliance requirements and implementation of a quality CME program that is geared toward physician education to improve patient care and outcomes.

 

Target Audience: Any organization with an active CME program or those wanting to establish a CME program.

Ms. O'Connell was a member of the JC Task Force that gathered to re-write optional language for The Joint Commissions original complex MS.01.01.01 (formerly known as MS 1.20) standard.  Ms. OConnells presentation will provide an overview of the proposed standard and how the revised standard will affect the Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Policy & Procedures and medical staff communication responsibility.
